Shell and the Science Museum
BREAKING NEWS - SCIENCE MUSEUM'S INTEGRITY FOR SALE
We’ve known since April that the mega-polluting oil giant Shell has sponsored the Science Museum’s new “Future Planet” exhibit. But today it emerged that the deal includes a gagging order that prevents any criticism of the company, despite it’s huge role in driving climate change.
We’ve said before that no museums are 100% objective. But how can you have a proper discussion of climate change without mentioning the people and processes that are responsible?
The Science Museum is one of the country’s most loved public institutions, and for them to sell their integrity to an oil giant is an outrage - and we encourage you to be very angry about it.
Climate change is not a thing that is “just happening” to Earth, nor is it the result of you forgetting to do the recycling last week. It is the result of unregulated capitalism, the censorship of science and the old-fashioned greed of people in business and government.
These people have names and jobs, and they walk among us pretending that they’re not richer because the world is on fire.
By accepting their money, the Science Museum risks becoming part of the problem - at a time when we need it most.
