Who is the Motivational Crab?

Our old friend the motivational crab has been getting a lot of press recently. First and foremost for their inspiring encouragement to the human inhabitants of Earth via social media.

But this little crab is so much more than a friendly pat on the back and cup of tea when you need it most.

It is an amazing and enigmatic crab in its own right. Anatomically it’s what you’d call a ‘classic old school’ crab (non-scientific term). It has a rounded body and legs of equal length with two blocky looking claws.

What is special about this crab is the way it jumps between rocks in the tidal splash zones where it lives.

The American author John Steinbeck wrote of trying to catch one that "they appear to read the mind of their hunter" and leap to safety a long time before they can be caught.

These crabs have also been seen living in a cleaning symbiotic relationship with the Marine Iguanas of the Galapagos Islands - cool huh?

We imagine them whispering little emotional boosters in the ears of the iguanas as they pick ticks off of their scaly skin.
