Damaging Pesticide Approved by UK Government
Neonicotinoid thiamethoxam is a pesticide known to be harmful to bees, insects, and invertebrate aquatic creatures.
In 2017 Conservative MP and Prime Ministerial wannabee Michael Gove stated that:
“The weight of evidence now shows the risks neonicotinoids pose to our environment, particularly to the bees and other pollinators which play such a key part in our £100bn food industry, is greater than previously understood … We cannot afford to put our pollinator populations at risk.”
However on the 8th of January this year, it was approved for use, despite proven evidence of potential harm to the natural environment.
Neonicotinoids and their broken down toxic compounds have been found to last a long time, not just in the plant themselves, but also in water, aquatic sediments and soil.
It is very likely that the presence of these chemicals will find their way up the food-chain.
